Imagine seeing the New York Giants play at the Met Life Stadium – without a scoreboard. That means no replays, no highlights, no scores up on the board. No zooming in on unsuspecting sports fans. No advertisements or real-time information. How would it feel? You probably would be a little lost, or perhaps slightly bored. It’s easy to take things for granted when we’re so used to them, but the fact is that scoreboards – and all electronic signage – are an integral part of our society.
The Purpose of Digital Scoreboards
Digital technology is growing in its capabilities, so there’s very little that’s not within reach. Scoreboards have always been a part of American sports, but today’s digital scoreboards are even more valuable. Not only are they responsible for showing scores for both teams, but also they tell us:
-
Minutes/seconds left
-
Advertisements
-
Player bios
-
Information on concession stands
-
Traffic and weather
-
Game highlights
-
Game replays
-
Zoom-ins of the crowd
-
Interactive games
-
Wedding proposals
-
Anniversary and birthday wishes
Scoreboards Keep Fans Safe and Aware
It’s pretty amazing when you think about how much people rely on digital scoreboards to keep them connected to the game, the players, their surroundings and fellow fans. Since digital video boards provide real-time information with changeable content, venues are able to offer information that keeps visitors safe and informed. For example, video boards can tell people where to go for food, restrooms or special accommodations. They can alert people of traffic conditions or hazardous weather in the area. And, if there was an emergency, people would rely on the signage to tell them what to do and where to go.
...And Entertained!
Of course, there’s plenty of fun to be had at sports games, aside from actually watching the sport itself. Anniversaries, birthdays and other special announcements are brought to life on screen, and because digital technology is fast and efficient, it’s easy for sports venues to offer these fun services to a lot of people. Venues also see an increase in sales because they can advertise concession stand food and beverages, as well as licensed sports gear. It’s hard to turn down those deep fried Oreos!
Decker Construction never forgets the importance of scoreboards – we think about it every time we step into a venue or watch sports on TV. We’ve taken on big projects, such as the stadium screen installations at the Met Life Stadium and the Prudential Center. We know what it takes to have high-quality, dependable and responsive electronic signage installed and how sports fans rely on them to stay engaged and connected.
